Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know about SideQuest before you sign up. Still stuck? Email hello@playgamequest.com.

What is a real-world quest?

A small, do-able mission you complete in physical reality with your buddy — visit a new place, try a new food, send a text you've been putting off, ask a stranger a question. SideQuest rolls one for you so you don't have to decide.

Do I need a buddy to play?

Yes. SideQuest is intentionally a two-player game. Pair with one person — partner, friend, sibling — using a 6-character invite code on the pair screen. XP and rewards are shared by the pair.

Can I play solo?

Not right now. Solo play removes the buddy accountability that makes the system work for ND brains. If your buddy is busy, you can roll quests anyway — they'll be there when you sync up.

How much does it cost?

Free forever. No credit card, no subscription, no upsell. Quest budgets refer to what the activity itself might cost in the real world (Free, $1–10, $10–30, $30+), not what SideQuest charges.

Is this therapy?

No. SideQuest is a game, not a medical or therapeutic product. It's designed to make real-life challenges feel doable, but it doesn't replace therapy, coaching, or professional support.

How does leveling work?

Every completed quest awards XP based on intensity (1–5), from 35 XP for a cozy roll up to 400 XP for a legendary one. XP carries you through nine levels: Wanderer → Pathfinder → Drifter → Catalyst → Sentinel → Voyager → Realm Walker → Mythmaker → Reality Legend.

Can I change the aesthetic mode?

Yes, any time. Five+ aesthetic modes (neon-punk, soft sanctuary, retro gaming, luxury minimal, cyber, dreamscape, luminous) reskin the entire app. Pick whichever matches your sensory state today and switch tomorrow.

What if I skip a day?

Nothing punitive happens. Streaks respect rest days, and skipping a quest never resets progress. SideQuest is PDA-aware by design — no demands, no shame.

Is SideQuest safe for high-intensity quests?

Intensity 4 and 5 quests automatically include a safety plan: an escape phrase, a time limit, and a code word with your buddy. You set the intensity — the game adapts safety to match.
